Rocket Lawyer Sells a Legal Platform. Minnesota Only Asks for an Address.

Read this as advocacy, because it is. MN Registered Agent.org wants your Minnesota registered agent business at $99 a year, and Rocket Lawyer is one of the places that money currently goes. The Rocket Lawyer pricing described below comes from the company's own published materials as of our July 2026 check, and the argument concerns structure rather than service quality, which we are in no position to grade.

Consistency Deserves Credit

Rocket Lawyer prices registered agent service at $125 annually, and the figure does not move. It is the same at every membership tier. We found no introductory rate, no first-year discount, and no version of the offer that opens low and resets high twelve months later. In a category where staged pricing is the norm, a single number that behaves the same for every customer in every year is a real virtue, and we are not going to bury it.

The platform behind that number is also substantial. Document templates, e-signature, attorney consultations, and a body of legal content sit inside the membership. For a business that will genuinely reach for those tools, the package is coherent and the price is defensible.

What the $125 Is Actually Composed Of

Here is the structural point, and it is not an accusation. Rocket Lawyer's agent service is a component of a legal services platform, and the fee reflects the platform around it. That is a fair trade if you use the platform. If what you needed was a Minnesota registered agent, some portion of every $125 is funding infrastructure you will never open.

It helps to know how small the underlying legal duty is. Minn. Stat. § 5.34 sets what Minnesota actually wants on file for a business entity, and it is a spare list: a registered office, an agent at that office where one exists, and a single contact person. No board roster, no share counts, no financial statements. The state is asking for a reliable address and someone reachable there. Everything past that is a product decision, yours or your vendor's, not a legal requirement.

Who Minnesota Lets You Appoint, and Where

The eligibility rules are worth reading before you shop, because they are narrower than most people assume and they explain why a Minnesota address is the whole ballgame.

Eligible agents come in three shapes: an adult individual whose home is in Minnesota, a corporation or LLC created under this state's law, or an out-of-state corporation or LLC carrying Minnesota authority. Your own company is not among them, and the state's form instructions bar an entity from taking the role for itself. Meanwhile the registered office has to be a working office location somewhere in Minnesota, a post office box by itself does not qualify, and the agent's business address must match that registered office precisely. Mail-forwarding arrangements do not survive the requirement.

Which means the thing you are buying, stripped of everything else, is a real Minnesota office with someone accountable at it. That is what we sell, and it is all we sell.

Switch From Rocket Lawyer in Minnesota: The Notice, the Channel, the Order

Minnesota moves an appointment with a single sheet titled Notice of Change of Registered Office/Registered Agent, filed with the Minnesota Secretary of State, Business Services. Naming a replacement agent, relocating the registered office, or doing both together all happen on that one page, so nothing extra is needed if your address is moving too.

Then the channel decides the price, and Minnesota runs backwards from what you would guess. Filing by mail costs $35. Filing online or in person costs $55, because the state treats both as expedited service and bills for the speed. Neither number is a penalty. They are two products.

There is also an unusual exception buried in the state's rules that is worth knowing if your record is currently non-compliant: when a filing does nothing except replace a defective registered office address, such as a bare post office box, with a compliant one, Minnesota waives the fee entirely.

Sequence the change so your record is never pointing at nobody. Contract the new agent, file the notice with their name and Minnesota address on it, watch the update land on the public record, and only then cancel the Rocket Lawyer membership. Owners who cancel first because the billing date is looming leave the state file stale until the paperwork catches up.
