ZenBusiness Renews at $199. Our Number Never Moves.

You should know who wrote this before you weigh a word of it. MN Registered Agent.org runs this site, sells Minnesota registered agent service at $99 a year, and would like that sale to be yours. The ZenBusiness figures below belong to a different category. They are prices that company advertises itself, transcribed from our July 2026 check without adjustment.

What ZenBusiness Genuinely Does Well

The software. ZenBusiness has assembled the most polished dashboard anyone in this category offers, and a page that denied it would forfeit your trust before the second heading. Formation records, deadline tracking, and incoming agent documents all sit behind a single login, laid out clearly enough that a first-time owner can work it without help. An owner shopping for one control panel over the whole business has found a real one. We do not build control panels. We keep a single Minnesota agent seat and put nothing else on the bill.

Two Numbers, Only One of Which Recurs

Purchased on its own rather than riding along with a formation order, ZenBusiness agent coverage costs $99 plus state fees to open and $199 for each year after. Both figures are published and neither is a trick. The difficulty is how shoppers line them up: the opening number gets compared against everybody else's permanent number, and those two things measure different quantities. Year six on their plan reads $199. Year six on ours reads $99.

Minnesota adds a wrinkle worth sitting with. Under Minn. Stat. § 322C.0201, subd. 2, a domestic Minnesota LLC's articles of organization state a registered office street address and then name an agent only "if any." A homegrown LLC may write NONE on that line and remain in good standing. The registered office never becomes optional, a standalone post office box will not satisfy it, and businesses organized elsewhere must still put a Minnesota agent on file when they qualify to operate here. But if you are a Minnesota LLC, that recurring $199 buys something the statute never required of you in the first place. Odd admission from a competitor. Also accurate.

Five hundred dollars of separation over six years, for a duty Minnesota describes identically no matter whose name occupies the line.

One Figure, Printed Once

There is no second tier in our plan because a second tier was never built. $99 covers a year and the renewal notice reads $99. Inside that: papers served at our Minnesota registered office are imaged and posted to your account the same day they arrive, with an email following right behind; the registered office line on your Secretary of State record shows our street address rather than your residence; and a nudge reaches you before December 31, the date the state's no-fee annual renewal falls due. One optional charge exists. A flat $15 scans a piece of ordinary business mail, and that single line is the whole of our add-on pricing, disclosed here rather than discovered on a statement.

Cheapest in Minnesota is the one line we have to leave alone. BetterLegal publishes $90 a year, under us, and a page this focused on other people's published numbers has to respect that one. What holds up: $99 belongs to the lowest band of flat annual pricing available in Minnesota, and to the very short list of rates that still read $99 in year six.

Switching From ZenBusiness in Minnesota: One Unnumbered Notice

A single document handles it, titled Notice of Change of Registered Office/Registered Agent. No number is assigned to it, which is how this state does business paperwork generally, so search on the title instead. Business Services at the Minnesota Secretary of State receives the completed form.

Price is set by the route you take, and Minnesota inverts the arrangement most states use. An envelope costs $35. Electronic submission or a counter visit costs $55, both of which the state labels expedited service, so the extra twenty dollars buys speed rather than punishing paper. Timing follows the money: a filing made through the state's business portal lands on the record right away, while mailed paperwork generally needs four to seven working days.

The form carries two conditions of its own. Your governing body has to approve the change by majority vote before submission, meaning members or managers at an LLC and directors at a corporation. And the printed instructions forbid entering your own entity as the incoming agent, because Minnesota does not permit a company to hold that role for itself.

Sequence runs one direction only. A successor's name has to occupy the incoming agent line before the notice can be completed at all, so the engagement comes first, the filing second, confirmation on the public record third, and the ZenBusiness cancellation fourth. No date on the state calendar forces this filing, which is exactly why it drifts. The $199 does not announce itself either. Handle it in the month before your ZenBusiness anniversary, not the month after.
